I am going to buy this piece...if you love books as I do, you can't help but see the tree coming forth from the pages of a book as a perfect metaphor!!!!
another of your drawings into my favourites! X)
This is how I've always thought of books- as doorways to other worlds.
Since you complained, I took a little more time to consider this, and I guess I can see some questionable places. Not sure if you're looking for critique, but here goes anyway. The surroundings are good. The books beneath are good. I'm looking at the book-portal itself, and the differences between plants (at ground level), the tree (slightly above ground level?), and the ladder that's rising up from an unclear place below sorta throw me off. I see some vertical strokes in the book, which could be grass but certainly aren't words, yet the crease down the middle of the book is visible. I'm not sure what roots are growing out of the book, they aren't from the cattails or reeds that are the generic low plants... though reeds would usually be at the edge of a lake or water source, not hidden away under a tree.
Are those separate staff-like things supposed to be fantasy world or reality? They're set off to the side and that breaks the illusion that things are rising through the book. Or maybe they're supposed to be the uprights of chairs, but I doubt it. And that brings my attention to the foreground, and there are sticks there too. Not clear what they're supposed to be now that I've confused myself.
But I should point out I didn't notice any of this at first, only once I read your comments and went looking for things that might not be right.
It's very well done!
